At the end of 2019, we did a series on our mission statement as a church called “The Gift: An Immeasurably Valuable Purpose For Living” In that series we broke down our purpose for living: to engage those far from God with the Gospel of Jesus Christ to know and follow Him!
Leading people out of the darkness and into the light is the most meaningful thing we could ever do in life. However, that series was a 35,000-foot view intended to get us all fired up and committed to laboring with Christ. But, it did not do much in the way of helping you understand how to lead people to follow Jesus.
How do we lead people to Jesus?
Some people do best with an instruction manual where they can memorize steps 1, 2, and 3 that then equal product 4. The problem is that people are way more complicated than a few steps. Not to mention, when you are leading somebody to know and follow Jesus you are not trying to get them to buy a product. Rather, you are joining them to a path a radical transformation that you yourself are still a student of. You are not the master teaching the student but a student teaching another student.
Enter 1 Thessalonians 1-3.
In these three chapters, Paul reflects on how he and his disciples engaged Thessalonica with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and led people to know and follow Him.
We will not hear magic potions and secret tricks to get somebody to surrender to Jesus. Instead, we will hear a testimony of what it looks like to take your messy, complicated, jacked-up life and eternally change other people just like you!
