Update April 5, 2020 On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered into Jerusalem, knowing Friday was coming. He was going to die for the sins of the world. Tonight at 6:25 our dear friend and brother in Christ, Virgil Sutton, entered into the gloriest city of all – Heaven! Donna Sutton made it real clear that she and her family all know what’s next – Sunday’s coming! Please pray for the Sutton family.
I’m writing this to inform you that at 9:30am [March 26, 2020] I was informed that one of the people who attends Venture tested positive for COVID-19. He is in critical condition at CaroMont hospital and on a ventilator.
Upon receiving this information, we immediately went to work to track primary and secondary exposure to this person and this person’s immediate family. This person’s last time at church was March 8, 2020, putting anybody who was here that day well outside the 14-day window. In addition, at that time, the person showed no symptoms.
The last exposure of anybody to the person’s spouse was March 11. It was at a small bible study and each of those people has been contacted. HOWEVER, this again is outside the 14-day window.
On March 12 the pastors, trustees, and staff of Venture had a conference call based on information we received from government officials. We canceled Venture’s Worship gatherings and have been continuing to follow all local and federal guidelines.
Therefore, by CDC guidelines there is no need for anyone to be concerned about this particular potential contact.
There are six of us who have been exposed to a person who lives in their home and each of those people has been contacted directly, given the CDC guidelines for people who are “potentially” secondarily exposed and given the official Health Department COVID-19 phone number. I emphasize potential because no one else in that home is showing any symptoms of COVID-19 at this time.
At this point, it is safe for everyone to assume that you have at least been potentially secondarily exposed somewhere in your day-to-day activity. I strongly encourage everyone in Venture to listen to and follow CDC guidelines. There is no need for anyone to panic, especially those of us who believe in the resurrection of Jesus, eternal life and the sovereignty of God. However, there is every reason to love our family and neighbors and therefore pay attention and follow what the medical community and government officials are asking us to do. Let’s all be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem.
Those who live in the home of this person are being quarantined until April 6th which is 14 days from their last exposure. Please be praying for this family as their loved one is in severe critical condition in the hospital and they are not allowed to visit. Given this person is on a ventilator they cannot even communicate with them. This is obviously a heavy burden on people who end up in this situation. Therefore as a church let’s turn our attention to those people in our prayers. As pastors, we will continue to stay in touch with them and make sure their needs are being met including food delivery to their home, medicines, etc.
Below are some references for you to find out more information on how to protect your family and community. The most important aspects are the rules for social distancing, washing your hands and if you have any symptoms to immediately self-quarantine and call BEFORE you go to your Doctor.

6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me–practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.Philippians 4:6-9
