WHAT — Understanding Judah’s Rebellion

  1. According to Amos 2:4–5, what specific sins did Judah commit, and how did these sins reveal a deeper heart-level rebellion rather than ignorance?

  2. Why did Judah believe they were immune to God’s judgment, and how did they confuse God’s patience with God’s permission?

  3. What does the example of King Uzziah teach us about pride and overstepping God’s commands?

  4. How does the difference between possessing God’s Word and obeying God’s Word show up in your own life?

  5. Why was the Babylonian judgment in 586 BC a fulfillment of Amos’s prophecy, and how does this emphasize that no one is above God’s standards?

SO WHAT — Understanding the Law Today

  1. Your sermon explained three categories of Mosaic Law (ceremonial, civil, moral). Which category do you think Christians misunderstand most today, and why?

  2. What does it mean that Jesus fulfilled the Law rather than abolished it (Matthew 5:17–19)?

  3. How do people today “relax” God’s commandments in subtle ways, similar to the Pharisees Jesus confronted?

  4. Why is it dangerous to bend or redefine sin in order to justify ourselves?

  5. How does the Law function as a mirror that reveals our need for grace rather than a ladder we climb to earn God’s approval?

NOW WHAT — Responding to God’s Grace

  1. The sermon says “You can never be what God wants you to be as long as you think you are not doing too badly.”
    — What does this reveal about the relationship between humility and spiritual growth?

  2. How does understanding Jesus’ perfect fulfillment of the Law change the way you approach obedience?

  3. In what areas of your life do you find it hardest to confesssurrender, or walk by the Spirit?

  4. How does seeing obedience as an expression of love rather than legalism reshape your desire to follow God’s commands?

  5. What is one specific area this week where you need to stop justifying compromise and begin trusting God’s grace more deeply?
